Yvonne holds an MA in Education & Sociology from Heidelberg University. She was a Teacher and Coordinator of the English program at the German Embassy School in Beijing, and was Director of Project Development at a New Hampshire language school. She now teaches German as a Second Language in the Fast Track program at GISB.
Eric holds an MA from the Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences. He is fluent in German, English, and Arabic. When he isn't teaching, he is probably swimming, songwriting, or designing games. He teaches in the After School Program at GISB.
Prior to joining GISB in 2018, Meike was a classroom teacher in Germany and taught Elementary German, Math and Science for the past ten years. She grew up in the German region Niederrhein, but also lived and worked in Düsseldorf and Schleswig-Holstein. In her free time she enjoys going hiking and camping with her family.
Becca has a career background in university admission and and has chosen to move to the high school side as she is more interested in the students' Journey. She speaks English, Spanish, and ASL, and was born and raised in Boston where her family owns a local bakery. You'll often find her there when not at school.
Sabrina joined GISB in 2010 and has taught English in private and public middle and high schools for over 25 years. Born in the U.S. to Austrian parents, GISB is a natural fit and a welcome bridge between her family's cultural history and her present teaching career. She is a teacher representative and the grade 10 teacher.
Janna studied English for Elementary School in Bavaria and went to a language school in Nuremberg for English and French. She is fluent in German and English and teaches in the ASP. She likes to spend time with her husband and two dogs hiking on the beach or in the mountains, enjoys road trips, and loves to read.
Dr. Calkins holds degrees from Berklee College of Music, New England Conservatory, and Boston University. Her teaching experience includes K-12 and post-secondary classrooms in France, the United States and China. Besides composing music and writing, she enjoys the great outdoors, reading, and water sports.
Charlotte studied History with a minor in German Language at Boston University. She has been part of the After School Program since 2010 and also coordinates Before School, Ski Week, April Camp and Summer Camp.
Dineen is a passionate art educator teaching students to be creative thinkers and confident artistic individuals. She has a BA from Hunter College in New York City and completed her graduate work at Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts. Prior to GISB, she taught for three years at the American School in Rome, Italy.
Claudia was born in Austria and has eight years of teaching experience. She holds a Masters in Mathematic and Descriptive Geometric Education from Graz University. Claudia teaches Math in the Middle School, is a "Matheolympiade" teacher, a ski instructor, a photographer, and she works in the After School Program at GISB.
Bindy is the MA State Ambassador for the 75-member-country International Board on Books for Young People and Chair of the annual Outstanding International Books List committee. She has done Children's Lit projects with Harvard, Tufts, BPL and more. She loves to connect children's books with Museum Education.
Uta holds a Master's in History from the Goethe University of Frankfurt and qualified as Therapeutic & Special Needs Teacher in Frankfurt and at the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. She has taught in Germany and the US. Uta joined GISB in 2002 and teaches Music in the Elementary School and History in the Upper School.
Mr. Gerson has both degrees in international business and a Masters degree in secondary education and Spanish. He has taught Spanish for over 10 years and has been at GISB since 2014. He speaks English, Spanish, and Hebrew. Mr. Gerson enjoys reading, traveling, and cooking and plays the piano and accordion.
Tara teaches English in Grades 1–6. She received her Reading Specialist certification from MGH's Institute of Health Professions and MAs from Tufts University and Graduate Institute of International Studies in Geneva. She has lived in the US, Ireland, France, Switzerland, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Canada.
Ineke was born in the Netherlands and has also lived in France and Germany. She speaks Dutch, German and English and currently she teaches in the Elementary School. Before joining GISB in 2005 she worked at the German International School of Silicon Valley.
Jana was born in Germany and speaks German, English, Danish and Turkish. She teaches Middle and Upper School German and GSL (DaZ) at GISB, and is responsible for the Model United Nations Club. Before Boston, Jana taught at an international high school in Turkey for five years, and taught in Denmark and Ireland.
Jean speaks English and Spanish and is Head of Elementary English. She holds the Massachusetts Educational Certifications in Elementary Education (K-8) and Principal/Assistant Principal (K-6 and Grades 5-9). Jean teaches English in grades 1-6 and she joined GISB in 2005.
Julia was born and raised in Germany and studied at the University in Bamberg. She works at the Lower Campus After School Program, teaches DAZ for Vorschule and likes to spend her free time with her family, friends and playing tennis.
Silvia holds a Bachelor’s in Human Performance and Fitness from UMass Boston and a Masters in Education from Boston University. She joined GISB as a PE Teacher and Head of Sport in 2009 and teaches grades 1-6. Silvia is also Coordinator for sport programs outside of GISB.
Bianca worked for five years as an Occupational Therapist, holds a BA in Education, and is licensed as a yoga teacher for special needs children (+yogi). When she isn't teaching Preschool at GISB, she likes to climb, read, dance (especially latin dance) and make crafts.
Claudia is an Elementary Coordinator at GISB. She teaches Math in Grades 1/2 and 3/4. She speaks German and English, and joined the faculty here in 2016. She really likes to ride her bike to get around Boston and shares this joy with students through a bike education project she initiated and oversees.
Ludger has taught in the Middle and Upper School at GISB since 2015. He holds a Masters in History, Sports and Biology from the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg. He also holds a Masters in World History from the University of Canterbury, New Zealand. Ludger also coaches volleyball at GISB.
Sati was born and raised in Heidelberg, and has lived in France, Turkey, and now Boston. She is fluent in German, Turkish, English, and French. She earned her BA in Early Childhood Education in Freiburg, and will teach Preschool at GISB. In her free time she loves to dance, play volleyball, travel and read.
Mona was born in Austria, and brings experience teaching preschool children with special needs to her role in the After School Program at GISB. In her free time, she sings in a chorus and takes pottery lessons. She loves nature, so you may find her cycling to all the beautiful ponds and parks around Boston on the weekends.
Stefan studied at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität in Freiburg and taught at the Marie-Curie-Gymnasium in Kirchzarten for 8 years. He has a daughter, Feline, who was born in 2015 and a dog, Bootz. He loves sports, movies and games. Stefan speaks German, English, French, and Spanish. He teaches Middle & Upper School at GISB.
Amy gained her Bachelor’s degree from Augustana College, IL and went on to earn her Juris Doctor degree from the University of Iowa, and Master’s degree in Elementary Education at Lesley University. She previously taught in the Arlington Public Schools and at Lesley Ellis School in Arlington. Amy joined GISB in 2015.
Catharina was born in Germany, and has seven years of teaching experience in Germany, France, and Australia. She studied at the University of Münster, and will teach English, French and Ethics for grades 5 – 12 at GISB. She loves traveling, rowing, running, and meeting new people.
Waltraud joins the GISB teaching team with over 28 years of experience teaching Preschool. Born in Germany, she has lived in Bahrain, Uganda, Romain, Mali, and New England! She loves to travel, cook, read and spend time at the ocean.
Hanna lived in England for three years, where she worked in two English Kindergartens. She spent one and a half years teaching at German International School Dubai. She holds a degree in Education Science and is finishing her Masters in Education Science. In her free time, she loves to do sports, cook, and learn new things.
Maria comes from South Tyrol and speaks German, Italian, and English. She holds a degree in Elementary Education and has worked in elementary schools for five years. At GISB she is a classroom teacher in Grade 1/2 and teaches music at the Lower Campus. She loves reading, singing, playing the piano, cycling, and traveling.
Anna was born in Germany and lived in the UK for three years. She is fluent in German, English and French and teaches in our English Department. Anna loves to travel, debate politics, read, visit museums, and cook.
Lisa is German and was born in Hessen. She studied Social Pedagogy and is a qualified teacher. In Germany she worked as an Educator for children from 6 months to 18 years. Lisa moved to Boston with her husband and joined GISB in 2015.
Martha was born in Germany and lived in Spain (Ibiza and Madrid) for 5 years, the UK for 8 years (Bath and London) and now lives in the United States. She speaks English, German and Spanish and teaches in the Elementary School. Martha joined GISB in 2013.
Kelsey holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts with minors in Art History and German. From New Jersey, she has lived in Germany and Italy and is fluent in English and German. She teaches in our Preschool and in the Lower Campus ASP. She loves to sketch, experience new foods, and walk on the beach with her dog.
Matthias served as Assistant Head of School for two years, and now is the Interim Head of School. He previously worked as a Trade Specialist at the US Consulate in Hamburg and taught in Germany. Prior to GISB, he spent a year with his family traveling in North and Central America on sabbatical.
Clotilde has been teaching French at GISB since 2004 and speaks German, Swiss German, French and English. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in French and German and has lived in Switzerland and the United States.
Hannah was born and raised in Massachusetts, and lived in Germany for the past six years. She studied Psychology and Studio Art, and brings five years of teaching experience. When she isn't teaching in our Preschool and Kindergarten, she and enjoys traveling, going to the ocean, bouldering, and running marathons.
Joan comes from New York State where she taught Spanish. She has also taught PE and coached girls' lacrosse in England. While teaching English in Spain she was the captain of a women's club lacrosse team. Joan enjoys teaching and coaching as it allows her to share her passions with students, colleagues and families.
Lea holds a Master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. She speaks English and Greek, and is pleased to join GISB as School Counselor.
Lauren has lived in the US, Germany, Holland, Switzerland, Belgium, France and Italy. She was the recipient of a Fulbright Research Grant and has lectured on Early Language Learning and English at the University of Education, Freiburg. Lauren has been at GISB since 2010 and teaches in the Preschool and Kindergarten.
Julia was born in Germany and has lived in England, India, and across the US for the past eighteen years. She is fluent in English and German. When she isn't teaching Preschool at GISB, you might find her running, teaching her dogs new tricks, or enjoying the ocean.
Laura is from Germany. She holds a BA in Museum Education, and a MA in Educational Sciences from Heidelberg University. Laura brings four years of experience designing and teaching workshops at experimenta, a German science center, to GISB's Preschool Program. She likes photography, reading, yoga, and exploring Boston.
Sophie is a classroom teacher in the Middle School, and also teaches Natural Science, Biology, and Chemistry at GISB. She speaks English, German, and French. In her free time, she enjoys running, cycling, skiing, cooking, traveling.
Alexandra grew up in Konstanz, Germany and has also lived in Switzerland and South Africa. Volunteering in a school in South Africa influenced her to become a teacher. She majored in Elementary School Education and Art at the Zurich University of Teacher Education. Alexandra speaks German, English, and French.
Born in Maine, Mary teaches English in Vorschule and elementary grades at GISB. Graduating from (BU) Wheelock College, and Harvard School of Education, Mary brings many years of experience in Early Childhood, and Special Education. She loves spending time with family, rock climbing, yoga, hiking, water sports, and travel.
Funda joins the Middle School teaching team as the classroom teacher in 5/6B. She also teaches Math in grades 5 - 9, and German in grade 5/6. She is fluent in German, English, and Turkish.
Barbara was born in Germany, lived in Belgium for five years, and has now been in the Boston area for many years. She brings more than thirteen years of experience to our Preschool teaching team, and is fluent in English and German with some French and Spanish skills. She loves traveling and riding her motorcycle.
Andreas studied at Albert-Ludwigs-University of Freiburg and University of Oslo. As a trainee he taught in Tanzania, and at German School Tallinn in Estonia. Special interest areas include German debating and fostering democracy education. He teaches History, Social Studies and German in the Middle & Upper School at GISB.
Susanne teaches DaZ (German as a second language) in grades 1 – 4 at GISB. She has more than six years of experience teaching in Germany and France. She also completed internships with the Goethe-Institut in Togo and the German Embassy in New Zealand. She is fluent in German, French, and English.
Hailing from Vienna, Melanie joined GISB in 2015 and speaks German and English. She teaches grade 1/2, Math, Science and Ethics.
Fenja joins the GISB teaching team from Germany as the Special Education Teacher to support students in grades 1 - 12. She has two years of experience in a school for physically disabled children and one year in a school for children with learning, social and emotional needs.
Andrea is from Germany, and lived in Connecticut for three years. In her former post in Hamburg, she was responsible for the science competition in grade 5/6, was a jury member of "Jugend forscht," and was Head of the Geography Department. She now teaches Science, Chemistry, and Geography in the Middle & Upper School.
