College and career guidance at German International School Boston reflects our overall approach of providing each student with tailored support. Our small size allows our College and Career Counselor and teachers to truly get to know students over the course of years of learning together. Students benefit from one-on-one support, group sessions, workshops, and visits from university representatives as they work to choose colleges and universities that closely match their interests and strengths. Our counselor works closely with each High School student and their family to provide information and assistance in preparing application materials for both North American and European institutions of higher learning.
As research demonstrates, standardized tests reflect only limited aspects of students’ knowledge and potential. That said, students have multiple opportunities to take the PSAT and SAT and we are proud of GISB students’ strong performance on these widely used measures.
Much more indicative of success, in our opinion and that of the admission officers with whom we have spoken, is a young person’s overall academic record. As recipients of the German International Abitur, our graduates hold a widely-recognized honors degree equivalent in rigor to a full load of Advanced Placement coursework or an International Baccalaureate. We have learned from our graduates currently attending US colleges that the Abitur has prepared them so well for the rigors of higher education, they are able to dive deeply into more advanced courses in subjects they are passionate about.
Our graduates have been accepted to a wide range of respected and competitive institutions in the United States and around the world.
