Yvonne holds an MA in Education & Sociology from Heidelberg University. She was a Teacher and Coordinator of the English program at the German Embassy School in Beijing, and was Director of Project Development at a New Hampshire language school. She now teaches German as a Second Language in the Fast Track program at GISB.
Friederike has lived in Germany, Switzerland, Spain, France and the United States and speaks German, English and French. Before coming to GISB she taught at the French School in Frankfurt. She loves to spend time with her family and explore America's National Parks.
Sabrina has taught English for over twenty years, both in public and private schools. Her parents both have strong Austrian heritage which has instilled in her a great love and understanding of Austrian culture. Sabrina is one of two college advisors at GISB and a 9th grade classroom teacher. She joined GISB in 2010.
Christina gained her Master's in English, French & Political Science at the University of Cologne and also trained in Berlin. She has lived in South Africa, Senegal, France, Germany and the US. Before joining GISB, she spent seven years teaching at a grammar school in Hamburg. She now teaches Middle & Upper School at GISB.
Christina holds a Bachelor's degree from the University of New Hampshire and earned her Masters in Art Education from Lesley University. She is an active visual artist and previously taught at an independent school in Waltham. At GISB Christina teaches Art to students from Kindergarten through the 10th grade.
Charlotte studied History with a minor in German Language at Boston University. She has been part of the After School Program since 2010 and also coordinates Before School, Ski Week, April Camp and Summer Camp.
Birgit has been a Teacher at the German International School since it was established in 2001 and has taught at the German Saturday School since 1994. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems Management and a Masters in Education from Augustana University. Birgit professes “I truly love teaching.”
Sophie speaks English and German and has lived in Switzerland, England, Germany and the United States. She joined GISB in 2010 and currently teaches in the Preschool. Sophie studied German and Middle Eastern History at Wheaton College and holds a Masters in Education from Lesley University.
Uta holds a Master's in History from the Goethe University of Frankfurt and qualified as Therapeutic & Special Needs Teacher in Frankfurt and at the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. She has taught in Germany and the US. Uta joined GISB in 2002 and teaches Music in the Elementary School and History in the Upper School.
Benjamin has a Master’s degree in Spanish and Secondary Education. He has taught Spanish for over ten years and has been at GISB since 2014. As a Klemzer musician, Benjamin toured with his band in Poland, Ukraine, and Israel. He also works as a Jewish educator, teaching biblical and modern Hebrew on Sundays.
Tara holds a Certificate of Advanced Study in Literacy and Language from MGH Institute of Health Professions, a MA from Tufts University and a MA from the Graduate Institute of International Studies in Geneva. She has lived in the United States, Ireland, France, Switzerland, Democratic Republic of Congo and Canada.
Kendra is from the Lakes Region in New Hampshire and has lived in Bremen, Germany, and Kaneohe, Hawaii. She currently teaches English in Kindergarten and in the Elementary School. Kendra speaks English and German and joined GISB in 2007.
Ineke was born in the Netherlands and has also lived in France and Germany. She speaks Dutch, German and English and currently teaches Kindergarten, and science in the Elementary School. Before joining GISB in 2005 she worked at the German International School of Silicon Valley.
Jana was born in Germany and speaks German, English, Danish and Turkish. She teaches Middle and Upper School German and Geography at GISB. Before coming to the US, Jana taught at an international high school in Turkey for five years, and also taught at schools in Denmark and Ireland.
Kausi holds a doctorate in German Literature and has completed Master's level courses in Early Childhood education at Wheelock College. She also works as a Math Guide at an elementary public school in Arlington. Kausi has been at GISB since 2011.
Jean speaks English and Spanish and is Head of Elementary English. She holds the Massachusetts Educational Certifications in Elementary Education (K-8) and Principal/Assistant Principal (K-6 and Grades 5-9). Jean teaches English in grades 1-6 and she joined GISB in 2005.
Silvia holds a Bachelor’s in Human Performance and Fitness from UMass Boston and a Masters in Education from Boston University. She joined GISB as a PE Teacher and Head of Sport in 2009 and teaches grades 1-6. Silvia is also Coordinator for sport programs outside of GISB.
Tobias studied Mathematics and Physical Education at the University of Frankfurt before working as a teacher in Fulda, Germany. He is a passionate triathlete and loves to introduce students to outdoor sports like biking and skiing. Tobias teaches Math and Physical Education in the Middle & Upper School.
Claudia is an Elementary Coordinator at GISB. She teaches Math in Grades 1/2 and 3/4. She speaks German and English, and joined the faculty here in 2016.
Ludger has taught in the Middle and Upper School at GISB since 2015. He holds a Masters in History, Sports and Biology from the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg. He also holds a Masters in World History from the University of Canterbury, New Zealand. Ludger also coaches volleyball at GISB.
Anke teaches Chemistry in Grades 11 and 12. She studied Mathematics and Chemistry for Secondary School Education at the Goethe University, Frankfurt. From 1997 to 2014 Anke taught at an upper level grammar school in Hessen where she was Head Coordinator of Math and Natural Sciences. She joined GISB in 2015.
Stephanie studied Elementary and Secondary Education in Heidelberg and Hildesheim. She teaches DaZ at GISB and is completing an additional degree to become a certified Social Trainer for children and youth with ADHD and learning disabilities. She has lived in Boston with her husband and two small children since 2015.
Stefan studied at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität in Freiburg and taught at the Marie-Curie-Gymnasium in Kirchzarten for 8 years. He has a daughter, Feline, who was born in 2015 and a dog, Bootz. He loves sports, movies and games. Stefan speaks German, English, French, and Spanish. He teaches Middle & Upper School at GISB.
Amy gained her Bachelor’s degree from Augustana College, IL and went on to earn her Juris Doctor degree from the University of Iowa, and Master’s degree in Elementary Education at Lesley University. She previously taught in the Arlington Public Schools and at Lesley Ellis School in Arlington. Amy joined GISB in 2015.
Astrid grew up in Austria and has also lived and worked in Ireland. Before joining GISB in 2015 she taught at an international elementary school with cross-grade classrooms near Lake Constance. Astrid comments “This was an incredibly enriching teaching experience.”
Heike is from northern Germany and lived for years in Böblingen. She holds a Master's in Elementary and Middle School Education. She has over twenty years' experience as a Teacher and also worked as an Assistant Head of School and a leader of STEAM projects. Heike loves to travel and connect with people from other cultures.
Lisa is German and was born in Hessen. She studied Social Pedagogy and is a qualified teacher. In Germany she worked as an Educator for children from 6 months to 18 years. Lisa moved to Boston with her husband and joined GISB in 2015.
Martha was born in Germany and lived in Spain (Ibiza and Madrid) for 5 years, the UK for 8 years (Bath and London) and now lives in the United States. She speaks English, German and Spanish and teaches in the Elementary School. Martha joined GISB in 2013.
Jennifer recently graduated with a degree in Political Science and Sociology. Born in Germany, Jennifer speaks German, Polish, and English. She is very excited to join the GISB team and will teach in the After School Program.
Matthias studied in Germany, France and Canada and teaches Middle and Upper School. He previously worked as a Trade Specialist at the US Consulate in Hamburg and taught at a grammar school in southern Germany. Before joining GISB in 2015 he spent a year with his family on sabbatical traveling in North and Central America.
Clotilde has been teaching French at GISB since 2004 and speaks German, Swiss German, French and English. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in French and German and has lived in Switzerland and the United States.
Joan comes from New York State where she taught Spanish. She has also taught PE and coached girls' lacrosse in England. While teaching English in Spain she was the captain of a women's club lacrosse team. Joan enjoys teaching and coaching as it allows her to share her passions with students, colleagues and families.
Johanna teaches Preschool at GISB. She was born in Germany and has lived in Australia, Ireland, Spain and China where she taught at the German School Shanghai from 2014-2016. She speaks German, English, and Spanish in addition to some Portuguese, Chinese, French, and Norwegian.
Lea holds a Master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. She speaks English and Greek, and is pleased to join GISB as School Counselor.
A 2015 Graduate from GISB, Anneke speaks German, English, French and Spanish and is spending her gap year as a Fellow at GISB. She has lived in Germany, the United States, Switzerland and the Netherlands. Anneke is planning to study Math and Physics for Secondary Education at the University of Hamburg this fall.
Lauren has lived in the US, Germany, Holland, Switzerland, Belgium, France and Italy. She was the recipient of a Fulbright Research Grant and has lectured on Early Language Learning and English at the University of Education, Freiburg. Lauren has been at GISB since 2010 and teaches in the Preschool and Kindergarten.
Benjamin has worked in the After School Program at GISB for four years, and he especially enjoys cooking with the students. He recently graduated from Boston College with a Bachelor’s in biology and philosophy. In Fall 2016 he will begin research at Boston Children’s Hospital and hopes to become MD-PhD.
Doris teaches German as a second language, or DaZ, in grade 1/2. She has been a teacher at GISB since 2008.
Kezia gained her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Elementary School Teaching at the University of Leipzig, Germany. After qualifying as a Teacher, she worked as a research fellow and lecturer at the University of Leipzig. Kezia has been at GISB as an After School Teacher since May 2016.
Jochen studied Educational Science, German and Philosophy at the University of Hamburg, where he was awarded his PhD in 1997. He has extensive experience in schools, education administration and teacher training. He is a member of the editorial team at Pädagogik, the largest educational publication in the German language.
Mirjam has lived in Germany, Canada, Philippines, Mongolia and the United States. She holds a Bachelors in Environmental Studies and Masters in Economics and a Masters in Early Childhood Education from Champlain College. Before joining GISB in 2011, Mirjam worked at the German International School in Washington, DC.
Alexandra grew up in Konstanz, Germany and has also lived in Switzerland and South Africa. Volunteering in a school in South Africa influenced her to become a teacher. She majored in Elementary School Education and Art at the Zurich University of Teacher Education. Alexandra speaks German, English, and French.
Carolin was born and raised in Germany and also spend some of her childhood living in the US. She is a Classroom Teacher in Grades 3/4 and teaches German and History in Grade 5/6. She has been at GISB since 2011.
Mary Snow is a long-term substitute in the English Department at GISB. She has her MEd from Harvard University School of Education, and comes to GISB with over 30 years of experience in Early Childhood and Special Education.
Sonja was born in Wuppertal (Germany) and has lived in Switzerland, Norway, and the United States. She loves living abroad, exploring cultures, customs, and languages. Sonja is passionate about Biology, especially Behavioral Biology, and teaches German and Biology in the Middle & Upper School at GISB.
Arlett Uhlig-Thie is an experienced teacher in Germany and has been in Boston since Summer 2016. She has three sons, ages 12 – 20 years old. Her hobbies include skiing, Zumba, yoga and cycling. At GISB, she supports students in Homework Supervision.
Antje joined GISB in 2016. She was Assistant Head of School for seven years at her previous elementary school in Cologne, Germany. Antje studied Elementary School Education in Heidelberg. Her daughter also attends GISB.
Andreas studied at Albert-Ludwigs-University of Freiburg and University of Oslo. As a trainee he taught in Tanzania, and at German School Tallinn in Estonia. Special interest areas include German debating and fostering democracy education. He teaches History, Social Studies and German in the Middle & Upper School at GISB.
Melanie was born in Germany and grew up in Vienna. She speaks German and English and teaches grade 1/2, Sport in Kindergarten and 5/6. Melanie joined GISB in 2015.
Andrea is from Germany, and lived in Connecticut for three years. In her former post in Hamburg, she was responsible for the science competition in grade 5/6, was a jury member of "Jugend forscht," and was Head of the Geography Department. She now teaches Science, Chemistry, and Geography in the Middle & Upper School.
